The School of Mathematics was established in September 2016. Its administrative structure can be traced back to the "Mathematical and Physical Research Guidance Group" during the period of Jiaozuo Institute of Technology in 1950. It has gone through the Basic Department, the Department of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, the Department of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, and the School of Science.

There are 118 on-the-job staff members in the college, including 100 teaching positions, 14 management positions, 3 laboratory positions and 1 support position. Among the full-time teachers, there are 22 professors, 44 associate professors, 13 doctoral supervisors and 44 master's supervisors. At present, the number of students on campus is 924, including 42 doctoral students, 156 master's students and 726 undergraduates.

The school established a mathematics teacher training class in 1978, set up a mathematics teacher education major in 1987, and adjusted it to a mathematics and Applied mathematics major in 1997. The college currently offers two undergraduate programs: Mathematics and Applied Mathematics and Statistics. In 2003, the Mathematics and Applied Mathematics program was identified as a provincial characteristic major construction point in Jiangsu Province. In 2012, mathematics-related majors were recognized as core major categories for key construction in Jiangsu Province during the 12th Five-Year Plan. The Mathematics and Applied Mathematics program was selected as a national first-class undergraduate major construction point in 2020. The Statistics major was selected as a first-class major construction point in Jiangsu Province in 2021.

The college has a postdoctoral research station in mathematics, a first-level discipline doctoral program in mathematics, and a first-level discipline master's program in statistics. In 1996, it obtained A master's degree program in Applied mathematics. In 2006, it obtained a master's degree program in mathematics at the first-level discipline level. In 2011, it obtained a doctoral degree program in mathematics and a master's degree program in statistics at the first-level discipline level. In 2016, the mathematics discipline was selected as a provincial first-level key discipline in Jiangsu Province during the 13th Five-Year Plan period. In 2022, the mathematics discipline was selected as a Class A key discipline in Jiangsu Province during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. In the fourth round of national discipline evaluation in 2017, the mathematics discipline was rated as Grade B, ranking 39th to 54th nationwide and 4th in Jiangsu Province. Since March 2019, the mathematics discipline of China University of Mining and Technology has entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking and its ranking has been continuously improving. Since 2019, it has been ranked among the top 35 mathematics disciplines of Chinese mainland universities in the US NEWS Global Subject Rankings, the "Shanghairanking's Global Subject Rankings" and the "Times Higher Education Subject Ratings". In October 2019, the establishment of a postdoctoral research station for mathematics was approved. In July 2022, it was approved to build the "Jiangsu Province Applied Mathematics (China University of Mining and Technology) Center".

The School of Mathematics has undergone continuous changes and development, and is now moving towards the school's strategic goal of "conducting high-quality mathematics education and building a high-level mathematics discipline" as well as the university's "Thick Science" strategic goal of "Double First-Class" construction. All the teachers and students of the college will, with a stronger sense of responsibility, mission and urgency, strive to take new steps in the development of the college and jointly write a new chapter in the development of the School of Mathematics!
